Takuya's Mr Brain big in Japan
The new Japanese drama Mr Brain, starring Takuya Kimura, received overwhelming response on its debut broadcast.
The drama won a 24.8% viewership rating, the most watched TV drama of spring. It also broke the viewership records set by the last episode of Rookies last year and claims the position as the highest rating programme shown during that particular timeslot.
Despite rumours that the plot of the drama is a copycat version of Suspect X, netizens expressed otherwise after watching the first episode of Mr Brain. They complimented the cast for their excellent performance and expressed that the plot is totally different from Suspect X.
In view of the poor response to recent dramas by actors Masahiro Nakai and Yuji Oda, the TV station invited pop idol Hiro Mizushima and Haruka Ayase and Kimura to appear in Mr Brain, with guest performers featured in every episode; the first being actress Ryoko Hirosue who was recently made famous at the Oscars with the movie Departed. Kamenashi Kazuya and the popular Takeru Sato will also be appearing in subsequent episodes.
In the drama, Kimura is a social escort who injured his brain in an accident but became more intelligent from it. He is later recruited into the Metropolitan Police Science Institute as part of a police task force.
