Haruhi Suzumiya & Toma Ikuta's Full 30-Sec. Ad Posted

The official website of Lotte's Acuo gum has revamped itself with both the 30-second and 15-second versions of the commercial starring the cast of the Haruhi Suzumiya franchise and the actor Toma Ikuta (live-action Akihabara @ DEEP, Honey and Clover). The 30-second version has a different ending from the previously streamed 15-second version. The website also has a brief page on the gum itself, and profiles of the Haruhi characters.


As reported last Tuesday, the "Boutique" commercial has Ikuta chewing Acuo gum when he spies an item that is sold out at a boutique. Toma Ikuta, Kumiko Aso star in "Seaside Motel"

Yukio Okada's manga "MOTEL" is being turned into a live-action film, starring popular young actor Toma Ikuta (24). This is Ikuta's second movie role, after the Osamu Dazai adaptation "Ningen Shikkaku" ("No Longer Human") which is scheduled for release next year.

This new movie is titled "Seaside Motel," set in a motel that is curiously named Seaside despite being surrounded by mountains. Ikuta plays Kameda, a traveling salesman who peddles questionable cosmetic products. His female lead is Kumiko Aso (31), playing a call girl named Candy whose popularity is already fading even before she hits the age of thirty. The two happen to meet at Seaside, and Kameda falls in love.

The manga is full of distinctive characters, but none of the film's supporting cast have been announced, other than stage actors Masaaki Akahori and Seiji Nozoe, playing a pair of cops.

"Seaside Hotel" is being directed by Kentaro Moriya, whose only other feature-length film is the 2005 picture "School Daze." Filming already started on August 30 in Guam. Theatrical release is scheduled for sometime in 2010.

Ikuta and Eikura Work Together for First Time

The actor Ikuta Toma (24) and actress Eikura Nana (21) will appear in the new TV commercials for the chewing gum ‘ACUO POWDER’ made by Lotte [candy maker]. The TV ads will start to be broadcast from September 1st. There are two versions of the commercial, with one titled ‘Couple’ and the other ‘Restaurant’. In the ‘Couple’ edition the two are out on a date, and Eikura tells Ikuta “Make me become more ‘sparking’!” Ikuta glances back at her and replies “Are you sure you want to say something ‘sparking’ like that?” The couple’s eyes meet and both of them pop the chewing gum into their mouths. At that point the ad takes a comical twist. The two start to ‘sparking’ as they soar and fly across the sky at breakneck speed. Ikuta looked back at the filming. “It was difficult for me to keep a straight face while saying something odd. But it was altogether a fun experience.” Eikura talked about how she felt to costar with Ikuta for the first time. “I was a bit nervous to work with someone I had watched on TV from when I had been little.”

Ikuta Leads Adaptation Of Dazai's "No Longer Human"

Toma Ikuta (24) will star in a new movie directed by Genjiro Arato, the producer responsible for the award-winning "Zigeunerweisen" in 1980. The film is "Ningen Shikkaku," based on the Osamu Dazai novel of the same name. Also known in English as "No Longer Human," the book is generally considered to be Dazai's greatest masterpiece.

Ikuta has recently had major roles in several television series, but this role will actually be his first time appearing in a movie. Published in 1948, the semi-autobiographical "Ningen Shikkaku" was Dazai's last completed work before he successfully committed suicide. Despite selling millions of copies, the story has never been adapted to screen. However, this year is the 100th anniversary of Dazai's birth, prompting the decision to create a movie.

Filming starts in July, with a release projected for spring 2010.
