Man killed because he didn’t know ‘Nobody’

We all know that the hit song, Nobody by the Wonder Girls is a global phenomenon. But no one would have expected this to have happen. A man in the Philippines was apparently was stabbed in the stomach and hit in the head till he was dead because he didn’t know the song, Nobody.

His name was Leo Santos, 28, and killed by 4 men from Tondo, Manila. The knife used was even left in the guy’s body and the whole murder was because he doesn’t know the song ‘Nobody’ by Wonder Girls.

Santos, an electrician from Callejon 1, Block 1, Lot 19, Corregidor St., Mahomas Compound, Tondo, Manila and was stabbed 2 times in the stomach and hit to death on 26th August. He died last Thursday at Memorial Medical Center after succumbing to his fatal injuries..

The Manila Police District-Homicide Section is now looking for the suspects Jansen Maglanque, Jonar Balagtas, Rodolfo Aguas a.k.a. Joseph and they will be facing the case – Murder.

According to the investigation, Leo Santos was walking along the Corregidor Street around 2am when Joseph was singing NOBODY by Wonder Girls. Leo asked him, “What are you singing?”

The suspect Joseph got irritated because Leo doesn’t know the song he was singing. What Joseph did was he punched Leo in the face.

The other suspects joined Joseph as he beat Leo to death. The other suspect (the news didn’t say who) even stabbed Leo in the stomach 2 times and then all of them ran away.

The family wasn’t able to report it at once as they only told the police yesterday afternoon because the family decided that taking care of Leo’s hospital issues and now funeral arrangement is more important.

The Popularity of having International Members in Idol Groups

Idol groups share many things in common, they can sing, rap, dance, and they usually have a lot of members. But one other thing they share in common these days is having one or more international group member/s in their respective groups.

In After School, you have Beka (Korean American). In Super Junior, you have HanGeng (Chinese). In 2pm, you have TaecYeon, JaeBeom (Korean American), and NichKhun (Thai / Chinese). In SNSD, you have Tiffany, Jessica (Korean American), SooYoung (Korean lived in Japan), and HyoYeon (Korean lived in China). In Wonder Girls, you have Yubin (Korean lived in San Jose, California). In 2AM, you have ChangMin (Korean lived in Canada). In 2NE1, you have Sandara Park (Korean lived in Philippines), and Park Bom (Korean studied in Boston, Massachusetts). In Epik High you have Tablo (Korean and lived all over the world, famous for graduating from Stanford with a degree in English Literature and a Masters). There are more including Victoria (Chinese) and Amber (Chinese grew up in Orange County, California) from new SM group, f(x).

Not to mention Nicole (Korean American) of Kara, MickyYooChun (Korean lived in America) of TVXQ, and the list will still go on and on. There's only a few groups that does not have international members like SHINee, Big Bang 4Minute, and Brown Eyed Girls ect.

From the above list, you might have read some names that may have surprised you. That is because people think America when you think of international idol group members. But there's a wide variety now; China,
Japan, Canada, USA, the Philippines, and Thailand. People may think of the big and populated places such as the USA and Japan but now they come from everywhere. For example, Sandara Park comes from having a career in the Philippines. This shows the K-Pop industry expanding its horizons in terms of accepting new people into the music scene landscape.

Now you might wonder why there are so many of them. Entertainment companies want international members because they have international knowledge and if they come to Korea, they will also carry a Korean feeling which will appeal to the audience. Another reason is language. Language is a huge barrier for Asians trying to make it in another country. Boa, Se7en, and the Wonder Girls all had to study English very hard and though they have improved, they're still not perfectly fluent. TVXQ had to learn Japanese to make it in the J-Pop industry. By having someone who is already fluent in the language, you know they will lead the group if the group ever decides to debut / crossover over to other countries. Not only regarding traveling to a different country but just connecting with fans in general is easier when you know more language(s). SooYoung of SNSD knows Japanese where as HyoYeon and HanGeng know Chinese. Nichkhun represent 2PM whenever they visit Thailand. This all helps the groups get more known in Asia and the rest of the world.

These international members help bring KPOP music to the rest of the world. International fans will find it easier to accept once they find something in common with the group, once they know they share a hometown, or speak the same language. So all this is only a good thing.

Which of your favorite K-pop stars has the cutest Engrish?

Out of all these stars, who do you think has the most adorable Engrrish?

The Wonder Girls during a concert exercising their great English skills:

Lee Hyori in her hotel room during her old reality show, "Off the Record"

Who knew SHINee's Key spoke English so well? And supposedly his skills are purely based on lessons--he's never lived abroad!

For those who don't know, back during Super Junior's early days they had a show called "Super Junior Full House" that just basically surrounded their new careers and placed 2 exchange students who both spoke English fluently in their house to live with them. While the students were staying there, the SuJu boys took English classes in their home and here are one of the few hilarious results:

After his comeback on Ya Shim Man Man 2, in the first segment, Rain is prompted by Jun Jin to converse with Nich Khun in English. There is an air of awkwardness but it's still very cute... later, Kang Ho Dong is messing with him, Rain responds with a cool phrase:

During a fanclub event in Japan, TVXQ's Micky and Junsu break into some random English before a sports endurance test... clearly, Micky hasn't been tutoring Junsu at all!

Big Bang's G-dragon shows off his "English Slang for Beginners!" skills at MTV VMA Japan Awards:

On their way to the Hollywood Bowl in California, the SS501 boys practice their English during the ride

And last but not least, Shinhwa's Jun Jin and Shin Hye Sung joking around about Jun Jin hitting his knee... Hye Sung speaks surprisingly well!

SNSD-Wondergirls-2NE1, There is No Resting from the Girl Groups' Activities

The activity of girl groups will continue without stopping this year.

Last year, the the girl group activity was busier than ever. Wondergirls was in the center of it all, and the representative girl group SNSD led the fever this year.

Last year, Wondergirls showed to be most active, creating a girl-group wave with their song "Nobody." Wondergirls made everybody point their fingers and do the gun dance to the song, and gathered a lot of momentum to hold their first concert. On Mnet chart, the album reached the top just two days after it went on sale, and it also placed first for 5 weeks.

Likewise, SNSD continued on this fever for girl groups this year. SNSD was noticeably popular not only in the music world, but they also appeared on shows and CF's very frequently because of their song, "Gee". It was deserved to be called the "Gee" wave. SNSD placed 1st for 7 weeks on the same chart that Wondergirls placed 1st for 5 weeks. They had the honor of having first place for the longest amount of time.

If Wondergirls and SNSD captured music fans by showing their youthfulness, liveliness, and cuteness, then this summer, the girl group different than all the others will come out to continue with the wave.

These girls, 2NE1, were called "the Girl Big Bang" and became popular even before they debuted. 2NE1 sang the song "Lollipop" with the Big Bang members before they formally debuted, creating publicity, and are currently active promoting their debut song, "Fire." Unlike previous girl groups, they have hip hop roots with their powerful performances on stage are their strong points.

SNSD, Wondergirls, and 2NE1 who is continuing with the girl group streak, are not only going to energize the pop world, but they are making us expectant for more diverse girl groups.
